Leicester Rocks - Breaking the Sound Barrier!

Before we know it Summer will be upon us, and so will this music festival……

Solid Entertainments is delighted to announce that Leicester Rocks will be taking place at Leicester Arena on Saturday 18th August 2018

As this is our first rock infused festival in Leicester, we wanted to capitalise on the superb facilities available at the Arena and mark the occasion by delivering a mix of sounds that showcases rock music in a range of different styles.  With King King; one of the biggest names in the UK headlining, the renowned FM plus seven other very different, but striking acts in the line-up, this will undoubtedly be a great festival and one live music event not to miss in the region!

King King are the band to beat.  Glasgow’s favourite sons have already been saluted as “the best blues-rock band in the world” (Blues Rock Review), credited for “setting the blues world on fire” (Classic Rock), nominated for Best New Band at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour and handed back-to-back British Blues Awards.  They’ve proved their mettle on bills with Thunder and John Mayall, triumphed as far afield as Mumbai and taken the roof off major venues from the 02 Glasgow to Wembley Arena.

King King haven’t wasted a moment of their white-knuckle career.  Formed in 2010, the band’s four-album hot-streak includes 2011’s Take My Hand (Maverick: “Tremendous”), 2013’s Standing In The Shadows (The Blues: “A sure-fire hit”), 2015’s Reaching For The Light and last year’s Live album that topped the Amazon Blues Chart and was called “thumping-good” by Classic Rock.  Words alone cannot convey the musical dynamics and chemistry of this quartet  and the only way to truly experience this is by seeing them live.  Having said this, you can get a feel for what they are all about by having a look and listen to them playing the punchy “Waking Up” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHrFVi9JLe4 and the vocal and melodic masterpiece “Rush Hour” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52alWswfyss

This year’s full line-up comprises of:

Bad Touch – over the last few years Bad Touch have started making a name for themselves and built a reputation for their dynamic live shows, making them on of the “must-see” acts at many local venues!

Hollowstar – comprised of four accomplished musicians, Hollowstar came together with one simple mission in mind; to make some of the finest rock and roll ever heard on this side of the Atlantic!

Leicester Arena provides the largest and most flexible space in the city. Costing £4.5 million and with over 2,440m2 of floor space in the main Arena, the facility hosts a wide range of events, with access to superb catering facilities and on-site complimentary car parking.  In close proximity to the city centre, it is also easily accessible by public transport

Clitheroe Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festival - Great Music! Great Place! Great Value!

Before we know it Autumn will be upon us, and by popular demand, so will this festival……

Solid Entertainments is delighted to announce that Clitheroe Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festival will be returning for the second year to The Grand on Sunday 14th October 2018!

With Corky Laing headlining and five very different striking bands stepping on stage, this is a festival that will appeal to music lovers of all ages and one live music event not to miss in Lancashire!

The legendary Mountain drummer, songwriter, singer and raconteur from Montreal Canada, will be doing seven shows with his band in England this October and we are delighted that one of these is at Clitheroe Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festival.  On the UK tour Corky will be accompanied by Chris Shutters, USA (guitar, vocals & flute), Mark Mikel, USA (bass, vocals & keyboards) and Phil Baker, UK (guitar, vocals and keyboards).

Mountain forged a style and sound that changed the face of rock music and the powerhouse double-drummer along with with Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi and Steve Knight gave us “Mississippi Queen”, “Nantucket Sleighride”, “Theme from an Imaginary Western” and many more; all standing the test of time.  Although best known as a long-time member of the pioneering American hard rock band Mountain and for West, Bruce & Laing, during the past few years Corky has been living and thriving in the fast lane.  In between his one man show, playing with his band, lecturing at Universities around the world, Playing God: The Rock Opera and doing some producing, Corky has recently completed his memoirs, a book soon to be released tilted “Letters to Sarah”.

Having played on over a hundred recordings and been a major contributing artist on numerous singles, live albums and 23 or so studio albums, performed by the man who co-wrote many of the hits, this tour is all about playing the Mountain songs like they were originally written, like they were heard on the original recordings, with some West, Bruce & Laing and also Cream thrown in for good measure.  Jack Bruce was a long time collaborator with Corky, in West Bruce and Laing.

Here’s what Mountain looked like in their heyday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FplFq9EXiSM and you can check out Corky and his band playing the infamous “Nantucket Sleighride” at The 100 Club in 2015 at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFhWRV-hvCk&feature=youtu.be

The full line-up is as follows:

  • Corky Laing – still gets a kick from rehearsing daily on his kit, sharing stages with brilliant musicians, performing to audiences and is truly thrilled to have been invited back to the UK again!

.        Chantel McGregor – music that salutes contemporary rock, showing a gradual transition from conventional Blues to a harder, bigger and bolder sound with progressive influences!

  • Stevie Nimmo Trio – enjoying making music now as much as at any point throughout his 20 years in the business and relishes the prospect of continuing to tour and playing live!

.        Zoe Schwarz Blue Commotion – has made a considerable impact these last five years, and is one of the bands that have added a fresh approach and vibrancy to the UK blues scene!

.        Catfish – British Blues Award winners have carved a reputation as an excellent live band, with the help of frontman guitarist/vocalist Matt Long, who plays with a real passion for the blues!

.        Southbound – with inspirations drawing from blues, rock, jazz, funk and soul, their exclusive take on British Blues leave audiences enthralled by their unique sounds and grooves on stage!

So why go to this festival.  Music is good for us, a perfect distraction from an increasingly demanding daily life, a great environment to make friends, have a good time and let your hair down…….all in all, a health and mood boosting experience.  Those that have said music heals the soul, are right…….so why not get in touch with your inner self and treat yourself to a day or two in Clitheroe this Autumn!

Durham Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festival - "Great Music to the North East"

Before we know it Summer will be upon us, and by popular demand, so will this festival……

Solid Entertainments is delighted to announce that Durham Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festival will be taking place at Rainton Meadows Arena on Saturday 23rd June 2018!

To celebrate our move to Rainton Meadows Arena, one of the largest indoor venues in North East England with a capacity of 2000 people and car parking for over 900 cars, we are be bringing some well known names to the county from around the UK and across the English Channel.  With Climax Blues Band headlining and five other very different, but striking bands in the line-up, this will undoubtedly be a great festival and one live music event not to miss in the North East!

Climax Blues Band has had huge selling albums like FM/Live and Gold Plated, the 1976 hit single “Couldn’t Get It Right” (from Gold Plated) and “I Love You” in 1981, their reputation carrying right through until the tragic death of founder member Colin Cooper in 2008.  Colin’s death could have meant the end of the band, but his desire was for the band to continue creating the fine blues blend that they have been associated with since their formation………Colin’s desire has been accepted with relish by the remaining members of the band.

This solid unit has flown the Climax flag with tremendous passion and style; the spring in their step is taking the band forward and pleasing crowds throughout Europe.  The ‘seamless’ transition in carrying on creating the unique Climax  sound is the result of hard work, disguised by a band having a great time making music….

The full line up is as follows:

  • Climax Blues Band – it’s been a long road, but one thing for sure is that the Climax Blues Band of today carries the same standard of quality as it did when the band formed back in the late 60s!
  • Chantel McGregor – delivering songs that salutes contemporary rock and showing her gradual transition from conventional Blues to a harder, bigger and bolder rock sound with progressive influences!
  • Ken Pustelnik’s Groundhogs – historically speaking, Groundhogs in their current form have been in existence for but a moment in time, yet their back story is extensive and varied!
  • Stevie Nimmo Trio – enjoying making music now as much as at any point throughout his 20 years in the business and relishes the prospect of continuing to tour and playing live!
  • Kris Barras Band – Kris was nominated for ‘Blues Guitarist of the Year 2017’ by Total Guitar magazine and voted into the Top 15 Blues Guitarists in the World by Music Radar!
  • Félix Rabin – is a French twenty two year old singer-songwriter with a style that embodies the best of Rock and Blues and holds such passion and talent, that you will be blown away!

With this calibre of artist stepping on stage, festival goers can expect to see top class live performances and hear a range of incredible sounds with sets that incorporate a creative mix of Blues, Rock and R & B, with a sprinkling of prog-rock in the mix!

No need to worry about searching for food and drinks on the day either, there will be a range of alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages, real ales available and a varied menu that should meet everyone’s taste!
