The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance is delighted to announce that The Charlatans drummer, Jon Brookes will deliver an exclusive masterclass on Monday 6th February 2012 at their facilities in London.
Jon is a highly experienced and talented drummer and began his career in late eighties playing in various bands until he eventually joined The Charlatans in 1989 as their youngest member.
Within a year of formation they had received their first gold disc and debut number one record in the UK. Plus the US hit single ‘The Only One I Know’, resulting in the debut album by a young British band in the US billboard Top 75.
The Charlatans has an impressive history with over 14 studio albums, 3 of which have reached number 1 and 24 top 40 hit singles. They have also sold live albums and concert DVD’s worldwide. This is has been achieved as a result of working with some of the world’s biggest record labels. They have also been special guests to The Rolling Stones, Oasis, The Who, The Police and The Stone Roses.
This exciting masterclass will kick off on the kit with some drumming, focusing on tempo inventiveness and groove. Jon will also talk about rhythm at the heart of most musical arrangements, referencing examples of musical origins and a look at the evolution and history of some musical fashions and how similar they seem when analysed.
Jon will also discuss his broader experience and about the music industry as a whole, working with producers, record labels and band management. Students will then be given the opportunity to play along to some Charlatans tracks and conclude with a music quiz and question/answer session including some anecdotal stories.
