The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) was excited to have their vocal degree student Rachael Travers, selected to perform at the Musicians Benevolent Fund (MBF) Songwriting Awards Final, held on Thursday, 26th November at The Bedford, Balham.
Six finalists were chosen from schools across the UK to perform for a live audience and high-profile judging panel including songwriters, Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams), Eg White (Adele, Duffy), Alison Clarkson (Betty Boo) and David Stark (MD of Songline). Performing two songs each, Rachael impressed the crowd with her folk-edged performance, highlighting a shift in trend within the industry as folk music becomes more popular and commercial with artists such as The Fleet Foxes, Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons. Sherika Sherard walked away with the night’s top prize with her acoustic/urban sound.
The ICMP understands the importance of charitable funding and is proud to be supporting the Musicians Benevolent Fund. The MBF provides help and support to musicians and their dependants when illness, accident or old age brings stress or financial burdens. They are able to help those living and working in the UK and Ireland and also British Nationals living abroad. They provide funding through a range of award schemes to highly talented musicians, usually in their final stages of study, and supply advice on funding opportunities through their online funding wizard.
