ICMP STUDENT IN JOHN LENNON BIOPIC - NOWHERE BOY

Nowhere Boys

Nowhere Boys

The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) Higher Diploma guitar alumni Matt Law recently played the close-up guitar work for the Paul McCartney character, portrayed by Thomas Sangster, in the upcoming John Lennon biopic ‘Nowhere Boy’.  Though beginning his career in the Quarrymen as a guitarist, when the group transformed into the Beatles, McCartney changed his instrument to the bass guitar.

The ICMP was excited to have eight students specially invited to preview the new biopic about John Lennon’s teenage years, ‘Nowhere Boy’, in December at the Soho Screening Rooms.  ‘Nowhere Boy’ is the directorial debut of Sam Taylor-Wood, with screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh (who wrote the script for the 2007 Joy Division film Control’), and recently closed the prestigious London Film Festival to rave reviews.  The screening was presented by music consultancy firm 1917, with whom the ICMP partners on many new music projects.

Students were treated to an opening talk by Haydn Williams, Senior Marketing Manager at Sony Music UK.  Haydn talked about sourcing the correct music to reflect the time and reviewed avenues of promotion for the soundtrack and the film itself.
